This afternoon at 4 o’clock all the names of the candidates in the EDDC elections will be announced.
I’m delighted to be standing for Feniton & Buckerell after two (very busy) years as District Councillor. There is still much to be done.
I shall be out in Feniton, Buckerell and Gittisham between now and 7 May listening to residents in the ward and delivering my election leaflet.
It’s going to be an exciting election with Cllr Claire Wright contesting the national election against incumbent MP, Hugo Swire in the East Devon constituency (see http://www.claire-wright.org/index.php/site/blog).
Meanwhile, the East Devon Alliance (www.eastdevonalliance.org.uk) is supporting a large number of Independent candidates in the District Council elections. Announcements of who is standing have been coming out of the East Devon Alliance office on a regular basis over the past few days and final names and the number of candidates will be known by the end of today.
Visit their website to see who is standing in your ward. It is worth reading the history of the group to understand what compelled this unprecedented move in local politics, but essentially:
The East Devon Alliance is an umbrella organisation for Independent candidates at East Devon District council elections on May 7th (the same day we vote for MPs and Town or Parish Councillors). We believe that the dominance of one national political party through a ten person, single-party cabinet system with weak scrutiny has caused chaos where we live. We expect Independent East Devon Alliance candidates to contest more than two-thirds of the 59 ward seats, and our group will offer support to them and the resources for voters to fully understand what their Independent candidate/councillor will do.
